Harry,
Here is my advice (since you asked). Just bet football! I'm sure you're itching for some action, but if you're new to gambling (and I assume you are since you are asking for advice in the newbies forum), you may not realize how wagering and following teams and researching lines and reading the RX will consume your time, energy and soul.
Football games take place primarily on the weekends, so there is some reprieve from the action....time to reflect and evaluate your decisions, what advice you got from whom, etc. Baseball goes EVERY DAMN DAY, and it is very tricky for the casual observor to make any educated calls on.
Please realize that many RX posters are hard-core wagerers and professionals with large bankrolls and time to do this. If you have the time, energy, stamina, and most importantly the BANKROLL, and you are willing to start depriving your family/friends/co-workers of these things, then by all means, start playing bases every day. If you do, please follow Eddie King's advice of just playing with "pretend" money on paper for awhile and seeing how you do. Often times the best wager is the one you decide not to make and you don't lose!
Sorry if this comes off as overly preachy or philosophical, Harry. I would just rather see you dip your foot in the pool rather than diving in headfirst. Every long-time poster on the RX has had days when they looked in the mirror and wondered what the hell they were doing with all of their time, $$, and energy. Anyone who tells you differently is either lying or the luckiest bastard on the face of the earth!
